The
North Star
I
jotted the rough version of this story in my bedside journal. From
there, along with being published into a book, it has grown into
a website, a classroom guide, a musical, on-line activities, and
an on-line version of the story, which has now been read world-wide.
The North
Star is my tribute to "off-the-path" thinking - and
to those who encourage it. Self-determination, creativity, hope,
and vision are the cornerstones of this allegory.
Behind the Scenes
Notes:
- Can you find
my daughter, Sarah's, name hidden in the book? And our friend,
Abby's name too?
- In 1996,
for the final edition, I painted and wrote the story on recycled
paper postcards. I did not conform to a specific page count as
often is the case in publishing (24, 32, and 48 pages are typical),
rather, I just kept adding to my stack of cards until the story
was done. 118 cards in all.
