The Alley

The opportunity to create the art for a brand new edition of Eleanor Estes’ book, The Alley, was an honor. Ms. Estes has written many classic books, including The Moffats.

When I read The Alley, I saw an image of a girl hanging on an ornate gate – the entrance to her private world. I researched alley communities in New York city hoping to discover the alley that this book was based on, but no luck. I did, however, discover a wonderful photo of a gate which became the model for The Alley cover.
